We have two classes per grade, from TK through 5th grade.
TK (Transitional Kindergarten) is a free public-school program that is essentially an extra public-school grade and is designed to be a bridge between preschool and kindergarten.
Students who turn 4 by September 1st can enroll in TK. Students who turn 5 by September 1st can enroll in Kindergarten.
TK students are in classrooms with direct access to the TK/Kinder playground yard and in-classroom bathrooms appropriate for their size.
TK and Kindergarten students gather in the morning and have their recess on the playground yard.
1st-5th graders gather in the morning and have their recess on the blacktop.

BEARS is the before and after-school care program run by the Berkeley Unified School District.
Kids in Motion is a private, state-licensed before and after-school child care program on campus.
IntraMUIRals are extracurricular programs that take place on campus right after school ends.

School Tours
During enrollment season, families are invited to visit BUSD's elementary school sites.
Guided tours by current John Muir caregivers will be held on Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. starting on November 13, 2025 and running through January 15, 2026 (with the exception of Thanksgiving and Winter Break).

Upon arriving at the school, report to the front office.
Visits are for adults only. To avoid disrupting the classrooms, we kindly ask that no children, including infants, accompany you.
