WHAT MAKES JOHN MUIR SPECIAL

A 2024 National Blue Ribbon School with 300 students on three wooded acres in the Berkeley hills. Two teachers per grade, TK through 5th.

Academics

Blue Ribbon–recognized for exemplary achievement. Two teachers per grade, district-adopted curriculum aligned to California State Standards, and a strong literacy focus with 300+ book classroom libraries.

Enrichment

Every student participates in weekly dance, cooking with garden-grown ingredients, and gardening. Music instruction for 3rd–5th graders. Art with a dedicated teacher. Science enrichment for 4th–5th. Library visits every week.

Nature

A historic 1916 Tudor building nestled among redwood trees, native plants, vegetable gardens, and a creek that doubles as a living science classroom. Three acres of outdoor space for learning and play.

Community

An active PTA organizing the Read-a-thon, Book Fair, Walk-A-Thon, and May Fair. Toolbox social-emotional learning program. Parent volunteers in every classroom. Small enough that every family is known.
